Lyme Disease is ...way over-diagnosed. Lyme is actually rare due to the fact that it takes days of the tick being on the person to cause infection. But people will generally find ticks on themselves long before that, not to mention that there are plenty of parts of the country where ticks are not an issue. And even in the areas that they are, what percentage of the population is going hiking in the woods to be exposed? It is not transmitted person to person, or through the air, water, or food. False positives are way more prevalent with antibody testing than are false negatives. The biggest problems with these tests are false positives from serological cross reactivity and antibody responses from exposure without chronic infection. For example, if not enough of the bacteria is introduced to cause chronic infection or antibiotics kill off the bacteria, there will still be an antibody response that will yield false positives. This is why without the characteristic bullseye rash, there is no way to positively confirm Lyme infection.

Lyme rashes and ringworm (fungal) infections can look very similar. {If} you do not have symptoms of Lyme, and more importantly {if} it appears to be spreading I would say it is ringworm, not Lyme. Antifungal herbs such as black walnut or diluted thyme oil should help. Or get an iodine soap like Betadine to apply to the area. Wash the clothes you have worn and bed sheets, towels, etc. with an antiseptic like vinegar so you do not reinfect your skin.

Fibro and chronic fatigue ... are syndromes, which are not diseases at all. But there is a diagnostic test for fibromyalgia. I have posted on the diagnostics of fibromylagia previously on this forum. ALS is Lou Gehrig's ..., which has been linked to a viral infection. Same for MS. Lyme is bacterial. In addition, these autoimmune disorders do not show the characteristic bullseye seen in most actual Lyme patients.

{If} you only acknowledge Lyme with the classic symptoms as outlined by the CDC, Okay, so that's me: Classic rash, stiff neck, troublesome joints and all the other benefits of Lyme. Couple that with positive tests (Western Blot, etc.) and here I am - a Lymie. So now I take Doxycycline, which is tearing my stomach up, and so far I haven't noticed any symptom lessening.
The most effective antimicrobials are chaparral, andrographis and pau d' arco. These are also great immune supporting and anti-inflammatory herbs. Adding yucca root powder to the mix will enhance the effectiveness of the herbs and add additional immune support and anti-inflammatory effects. I recommend a mix of one ounce each of the first 3 herbs with an half an ounce of the yucca root taken a half a teaspoon at a time 3-4 times daily at least 20 minutes before meals. Note, if you suspect an ulcer in the GI tract then leave the yucca root out. Other things you can do to boost your immune system and reduce the inflammation are adaptogenic herbs such as astragalus, jiaogulan, schisandra berry, licorice root, etc. Stay away from stimulants like caffeine and nicotine. Limit your consumption of animal protein as well since the arachidonic acid from animal proteins increases inflammation. Don't forget to restore your flora with cultured foods and fibers to replace what the Doxycycline will have destroyed. The flora are a major part of the immune system as well.

I have been working with a guy diagnosed with Lyme disease. He is primarily doing the chaparral, pau d' arco and andrographis, and is doing well. So I would go with this, but also include some Wormwood and yucca root. Wormwood has also been shown to help with symptoms, and yucca will help with absorption and penetration as well as reducing the inflammation. So a simple formula would be one ounce each of the chaparral, pau d' arco, and andrographis. And a half ounce each of the Wormwood and yucca root powders. Blend them thoroughly. Recommended dose is half a teaspoon 3 times daily at least 20 minutes before meals. If you decide to capsule it then it would be 3 size 'O' capsules or 2 size 'OO' capsules 3 times daily. Don't forget to drink plenty of water throughout the day.

What are your thoughts on Lyme? First of all I think it is being over-diagnosed and blamed for a lot of unrelated things. As I mentioned earlier antibody tests are a joke. These tests are highly prone to false positives, particularly from a problem known as serological cross reactivity that I have discussed in other posts. Exposure without chronic infection can also lead to false positives. Unfortunately, doctors often tend to rely heavily on inaccurate lab tests and if something sends up a flag they look no further assuming that this has to be the cause.
